Adam Rooney makes Colls switch

Former Trafford FC centre-back Adam Rooney has joined Pitching In NPL Premier Division side Atherton Collieries.

Rooney, 24, made his non-league breakthrough with Skelmersdale United, before going onto a successful three year stint at Cammell Laird.

The defender made 24 appearances for Droylsden in 2019-20, and has since enjoyed time at former club Trafford, featuring 47 times and scoring three goals.

The no-nonsense defender has been a popular player throughout his career, winning various personal accolades as he has climbed the non-league ladder.

Speaking on the latest arrival at the Skuna Stadium, assistant manager Rob Sadler said: “Adam was a player we were alerted to and watched a few times last season.

“He has developed really well under Danny Caldecott at Trafford, and we were delighted when he chose to join us for pre-season.

“Over the summer, we have been very impressed with his performances, attitude and desire to improve. We are really pleased he will be with us for the season, and we hope his progression continues at Colls.”
