Ashton United boss Steve Cunningham signs new deal

Ashton United manager Steve Cunningham has committed his immediate future to the club, signing a new deal until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Cunningham took over the Robins in January 2023 following the resignation of Michael Clegg.

The club finished 14th in 2022/23 before going on to achieve successive top-half finishes during Cunningham's two full seasons in charge.

They ended the 2024/25 campaign fifth in the Northern Premier League's top division but were beaten by play-off winners Worksop Town at the semi-final stage.

Speaking after that loss, Cunningham took to social media, saying: "I know people say it’s only football, but they couldn’t be further from the emotional rollercoaster of a 42 game season as a manager is.

"The ups and downs this season has been the most challenging I have had, but to reach the play-offs for Ashton United Football Club and lose in a game I genuinely feel we deserved more from makes me proud of what we have achieved as a group."

It has also been confirmed that Cunningham's backroom team will remain at Hurst Cross.

The club have also learnt their 21 league opponents for next season after the FA allocations for Step 1-4 were released on Thursday.
