Ashforth names new number two

Harrogate Railway manager Lee Ashforth has unveiled Martin Powell as his new number two as he starts preparing to win promotion back to the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League.

A UEFA B license holder, Powell was appointed over the weekend as the successor to Simon Wood who left Station View following the club's second from bottom finish to EVO-STIK NPL First Division North and relegation.

Powell has been a popular figure around the club since joining Ashforth's management team shortly after the beginning of last season. Railway's manager, pictured, said: "We have decided to promote Martin from first-team coach to assistant-manager with Simon Wood leaving to play more local football.

"It's a good stepping stone for Martin, we didn't think there was any point bringing people in because we've already got the structure in place to be able to attract the right kind of players."
