Atherton Collieries snap up talented winger

Promising forward Jay Fitzmartin has joined Atherton Collieries following his departure from Bolton Wanderers.

Fitzmartin, 19, spent eight years in the Bolton academy setup, making one senior appearance for the club in 2019.

Having signed professional terms with the Whites in 2021, he then enjoyed a spell on loan at Stalybridge Celtic, scoring once and bagging multiple assists during his 12 games for the club.

Discussing the signing, Colls manager Brad Cooke said: “Jay is a very good footballer, and I am absolutely delighted that he has agreed to sign for us.

“He is someone I have admired for a while, and I tried to sign him a couple of times on loan from Bolton.

“Fitz has huge potential and I have no doubt he will do very well in the game. He suits our style of play, he is technical and has lighting pace.

“After dropping out of professional football for the first time, I know he is determined to have a really positive season.

“I can’t wait to see what Jay can do. It is an exciting time for the Collieries to sign a player of his calibre.”
