Bacon celebrates permanent move with brace

Mickleover moved clear at the top of the Northern Premier League as striker Declan Bacon scored two in a 4-1 win over Radcliffe.

It was the only game played in the Premier Division, as Mickleover registered their seventh win in 10 this season.

Bacon has enjoyed a fine season on loan from Gainsborough Trinity, and his move was made permanent on the eve of the fixture.

He celebrated with a goal on 75 minutes, which restored Mickleover’s lead after Andrew Owens’ penalty had cancelled out Phil Watt’s opener.

An Andrew Wright penalty made the points safe on 87 minutes, before Bacon added his second - also from the spot - in injury time.

The game wasn’t short of controversy, with three red cards dished out - including to Radcliffe ‘keeper Cameron Belford.

Mickleover boss John McGrath said: “(Declan’s) an integral part of our team and it's it glad to welcome him back. it gives me the right sort of headache, challenging for places with Stuart Beavon and Paddy Webb.”

Bacon had originally been on loan at Mickleover until January, but was suddenly recalled by Gainsborough last month after scoring six goals for the club.
