Belper launch stadium funder appeal

By James Gordon

Belper Town have launched a fundraising campaign to generate funds to repair the Raygar Stadium following extensive damage caused by Storm Babet.

The Nailers’ ground was devastated by flood waters on Friday 20 October which caused significant flooding to the pitch and club facilities, leading to the postponement of their fixture against Newton Aycliffe the following day.

As a result, the surface of their 4G pitch has been damaged and requires repairs, alongside redecorating and reflooring costs to the clubhouse, kitchen, offices and dressing rooms.

It is the third time in five years that Belper Town has been hit by floods, due to being located in a floodplain which makes flooding in the event of heavy rain extremely likely.

Due to this, the club are unable to insure itself against flood-related risks and has therefore issued a rallying cry to fans and the local community to help alleviate the costs of repairs.

They are looking to raise £18,000 to help get the club back on its feet.
