Belper Town lose defender to National League

Belper Town centre-back Tom Wilson has joined National League side FC Halifax Town.

Wilson had been with the Nailers permanently since August 2021, having initially joined on loan from Stalybridge Celtic.

In his first full season with the club, he scored six goals in 35 appearances as they secured promotion to the Northern Premier League.

Last season, he continued to be a stand-out performer for he club, making 46 appearances in total, but could not prevent them from being relegated to the Pitching In NPL East Division.

Earlier in his career, Wilson came through the youth ranks at Sheffield United before joining Hallam FC following his release.

He joins a Shaymen side currently 9th in the National League, with two wins, three draws and one defeat from their opening six league matches.

Taking to social media, Wilson said: "I've loved every second of my time at Belper, high or low.

"The staff, managers and my team-mates have been some of the best people I've ever come across, and it was a pleasure to put on that shirt every week.

"The support, home and away, was incredible. You, the fans, stuck by us through everything, turned up in numbers and sang our songs. Last season really showed me how special the club is.

"Thank you for the love and support you've shown me, week in, week out. I wish you all the very best."
