Benbow won't be delayed for long

Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett is happy to wait for Luke Benbow to become a Glassboys centurion despite missing out on his services again for Saturday's clash with Whitby Town in the EVO-STIK League's top flight after his recent sending off.

The popular 26-year-old, pictured, will be missing following his red card at Workington on Saturday 2 December, the final day of an initial one month loan from Solihull Moors.

Hackett was more than happy to extend Benbow's stay until the end of January despite the dismissal in Cumbria costing him a three match ban that was effectively extended by the postponement of Stourbridge's fixture with Farsley Celtic on Saturday 9 December following the onset of this season's first freezing weather conditions.

The Glassboys boss told the club's fans: “Luke needs to play. He can get sharper, he knows that, because he hasn’t played a great deal of football. This is like a home for him and we can now move forward."

Since returning to the War Memorial Ground in November for his third spell, Benbow had made seven appearances and scored four times. In total, he's scored 99 goals for the Glassboys, 32 in the EVO-STIK League's top flight alone last term to share the overall golden boot with Farsley Celtic's James Walshaw.

Before earning his switch to the National League's Moors in the summer, he also swept the boards at Stourbridge's end of season awards, his exploits seeing him carry off the 'supporters', manager's and players' player of the year' accolades.

Benbow joined the Football Education programme at Birmingham City at the age of 16. He later had spells with Bromsgrove Rovers and Weymouth before being selected to join Glenn Hoddle’s Football Academy in Spain.
