Blackburn goalkeeper joins Marine on loan

Young Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Felix Goddard will spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Marine.

The 19-year-old, who spent the majority of last season on loan at beaten play-off finalists Bamber Bridge, departs Ewood Park to further his development shortly after agreeing a new two-year deal with the Championship side.

Frankfurt-born Goddard began his career in the youth setup at Manchester City before joining Blackburn in 2020.

He helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup before signing a professional deal with Rovers in 2022.

Manager Neil Young said: “Felix has always been my first choice from the start of this year’s recruitment process.

"I appreciate that some fans will have been a little nervous about the goalkeeping situation, but these things do take time and now I’m really happy we have been able to get Felix in on this loan.

"I would like to thank Blackburn Rovers and in particular Ben Benson in helping make the loan possible.

"I would also like to thank Wigan Athletic for allowing young Matty Corran to play for us in recent games. His performances in those games as a 17-year-old have been exceptional."
