Blues' boss happy with performance

Frickley Athletic update, by Steve Pennock.

Manager Peter Rinkcavage was satisfied with his team’s performance in the 3-1 win at Burscough on Saturday.

He said, “I was very pleased with our display on Saturday. There is always pressure on you when you play bottom of the league because people unconsciously give you the three points before you even get to the ground. Burscough are massively improved over the last few weeks and we knew we had to perform to get anything from the game.”

Rinkcavage went on, “We were very unhappy with how we defended against Buxton; we were too deep and not aggressive enough and we worked hard in training to make sure that didn’t happen on Saturday. We got the reaction and performance we needed from our defenders and that gave us the platform to go on and win the game.”

Frickley gave debuts to two players on Saturday, goalkeeper Stephen Dickinson and left back Ben Turner and Rinkcavage was delighted with them both saying, “They settled in very well and I was pleased with both their contributions. They are both proven at this level so sticking them both in wasn’t a big risk and along with Mark Gray they have added real competition to the squad.”

Ollie Ryan was again superb and scored his first goal of the season and the Blues’ boss is hoping it is the start of things to come. He commented, “Ollie is a quality player and scored a great goal. We have missed his contribution so much this season and it is a great relief to see him fit and playing well. He brings a presence up front that we have been missing and there is no doubt he is bringing the best out of Brad Grayson, who scored again and had a terrific game. When Knoxy is available and along with Jack Watts we have four good strikers vying for two spots and that is a big change around from the weeks where we have had to play one up front because we only had one fit striker.”

Frickley have now moved up to 13th in the league and Rinkcavage is hoping his side can continue its climb up the table. He said, “With the injuries we have had this season we have done well to be where we are but we have players back fit now so I am hopeful we can progress further. It is a very tough league and it is important we keep having unbeaten spells; we recently went 6 unbeaten, then didn’t win in 4 and now we have gone 3 league games without defeat and we want to keep this run going for as long as possible.”
