Bouncing back with new directors

By David Watters

EVO-STIK League Belper Town have started bouncing back from the loss of a chairman and two key directors with a double boost to their boardroom.

Local businessmen Ian Woodward and Guy Wimhurst were unveiled as directors on Tuesday following the April departures of former chairman Alan Benfield and fellow local businessmen Chris Balls and Paul Waldron from the board at Christchurch Meadow.

Passionate supporters who are fully "aware of size of the rebuilding job needed at the Marston’s Stadium", Woodward runs a local property maintenance company while Wimhurst is a regional manager for the Co-op.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Nailers also confirmed that new stadium manager Steven Hunt and Andy Hunt, no relation, their new marketing and publicity manager, were already making their presence felt updating the club's public image and modernising and upgrading facilities as new manager Grant Black gets ready for the upcoming 2018-19 campaign.

Belper Town managing director Dave Laughlin said: “Following the loss of three directors in April, the boardroom needed an urgent injection of experience and knowhow, so we are delighted that Ian and Guy have come on board. They will bring valuable expertise to the club with Guy taking on the role of finance director whilst Ian will lead on the club’s stadium development plans.

“Ian will be ably supported by Steven Hunt, who as stadium manager has already developed a comprehensive stadium maintenance programme and is also actively working on a scheme to replace the spectator barriers around the pitch. He has also organised working parties throughout June for supporters to assist in the many jobs that are necessary ahead of the new season.

“Guy has a track record of managing multiple retail enterprises and will be utilising his financial expertise to modernise the club’s financial systems. Finally, the club is thrilled that the creative mind of Andy Hunt is leading the redesign of all aspects of the clubs marketing and publicity materials, including a brand new matchday programme design for next season."

He added: “We welcome them all to the club and look forward to working with them as we continue in our efforts to create a strong and vibrant club that the local community will be proud of.”
