Brown makes first signings at Clitheroe

By James Gordon

New Clitheroe boss Phil Brown has made three new signings ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

First in is midfielder Charlie Russell from Lancaster City, who played under Brown at The Giant Axe.

He said: “I just think we work well...everything I want from a football manager, he meets that.

“I didn't have any other club in my head. As soon I knew Phil had got the job, I wanted to come straight away and I am excited to get going.”

Forward Conor Gaul, 23, arrives from EVO-STIK League West Division champions Atherton Collieries.

He has previously played for Colne, Kendal Town and in Gibraltar for Bruno’s Magpies.

Brown said: "We are very pleased to have agreed terms with Conor. Competition for his signature was high so I’m delighted he has agreed to come to Clitheroe.

“In attacking positions we want to bring in dynamic and versatile players and Conor certainly fits that criteria.

“He is quick, skilful and can play in several attacking positions. He won the league last season with Atherton Collieries, so he knows the level of performance you need to reach to be successful.

“I’m looking forward to watching him play and I can see him doing very well with us."

Also arriving is striker Jordan Darr, 20.

Darr arrives from newly-promoted National League side Chorley, having come through the Magpies’ youth set-up.

He had loan spells last season with Bamber Bridge, Northwich Victoria and Skelmersdale United.

Brown added: “Jordan’s exactly the type of forward player we want; very quick, has excellent technical ability and above all has a very positive mindset.

“He wants to progress and understands that to do that he needs to work hard and continue to develop his game.

“Jordan can play through the middle or out wide and is another player who gives us attacking options.”
