Brownhill heads home to Hyde

Former Altrincham defender Kyle Brownhill will be one of the players on Saturday's weekly official EVO-STIK League transfer list after switching to Hyde United on Friday.

Signed from the EVO-STIK League top flight leaders in the summer following their relegation from the National League, the left-back proved to be a consistent performer for the Rams, making 25 appearances and scoring three goals.

The Tigers made an approach to bring the former Burnley, AFC Telford, Stockport County and Workington player back to Ewen Fields for a fifth spell after being knocked out of the Integro League Cup by the Rams on penalties last week.

United manager Mark Fell told fans he was sorry to see him leave for their EVO-STIK League North rivals in a club statement announcing the transfer.

Fell said: “We wish Kyle all the best for the future, he’s a lovely young man who’s supported by a great family and I’ve no doubt he will do well at Hyde. The fact is we cannot compete with clubs like Hyde financially and when a young lad who’s self employed gets offered significantly more than what we can it’s a life decision as well as a football one."

The Rams boss also told supporters he was confident of finding an early replacement for Brownhill at the Riverside and happy with his options in the meantime.

He added: “We signed Kyle very late in pre-season and originally Jerome Wright was signed as a left-back, but Jerome has been effective higher up the pitch so we’ve made some enquiries about a replacement which I think we’ve a good chance of securing. Until then we’ve still good cover with players who are more than capable of playing in several different positions.”
