Bucks boss signs for sixth season

The Bucks announced on Sunday that the former Worksop Town boss had signed a new contract to extend his stay with Tim Ryan also agreeing to continue as his number two for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign.

Appointed back in February 2011 as the successor to Scott Maxfield with the Bucks at the foot of the table and five points away from the safety zone, the 44-year-old turned the club's fortunes around over their remaining 14 games to beat the drop.

Since then the Bucks have finished no lower than 13th with McIntosh agreeing a new deal after Saturday's 1-0 win at Rushall Olympic lifted his side to 11th spot in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight and kept the club on course for their highest ever finish under his stewardship.

In a statement announcing the news, the Bucks also paid tribute to McIntosh's work behind the scenes. In far from easy financial times, officials say no manager since the days of the late Bob Murphy 25 years ago had earned the Derbyshire club as much in transfer fees by finding and developing players, his success stories including Marc Roberts who was playing for Barnsley at Wembley last weekend, Craig King, Ash Palmer and most recently, Liam Hardy's switch to Darlington.

Buxton chairman David Hopkins, pictured with McIntosh after agreeing a new deal with their manager back in 2013, said: "The board of directors is delighted to maintain stability at the club in a challenging league with a very capable management team in Martin and Tim and we are looking forward to next season with renewed optimism."

McIntosh, who kicked off his playing career with Tottenham Hotspur before turning out for Clydebank, Hamilton Academical, Stockport County, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town, Grimsby, Mansfield Town, Alfreton Town and Guiseley, is delighted to be staying on at Silverlands.

McIntosh said: "Both Tim and I are pleased to extend our stay with Buxton and hope to continue the good work in developing players and generally doing well for the club in league and cups."
