Welsh U21 Jake Charles, pictured, was unveiled on Friday as manager Steve Burr's latest signing as he builds a squad to bounce back from relegation in April for the big kick off to the 2017-18 EVO-STIK League season on Saturday 12 August.
The versatile 27-year-old former Barnsley and Huddersfield winger and striker joined more than a dozen new faces at the Bower Fold this weekend after impressing in the number 10 position on Tuesday night as Celtic drew 1-1 with Huddersfield Town.
Speaking ahead of his side's trip to Mossley on Saturday, Burr told the club`s official website: “We have fought off lots of National League and National League North clubs to get Jake’s signature. He is young and hungry after being released by Barnsley and will be a great signing for Celtic.”
Rated by many as the greatest all-round footballer ever to come out of the British Isles, John Charles, pictured in action during his heyday, passed away in 2004 aged 72.
During his long career at Leeds United and Juventus, his strength, pace, technique, vision, ability in the air and eye for goal meant he was equally adept as a forward or defender. Famously, he was never sent off or even cautioned during his entire career and was dubbed The Gentle Giant by Italian fans.
