Busy Blues bag eight

Frickley Athletic manager Karl Rose unveiled eight new summer signings this week as his side returned for preseason training.

Striker Danny South has re-signed for Athletic while midfielder Matty Bloor is back from Rose’s former club Goole AFC, along with defenders Tom Johnston, Luke Jeffs and midfielder Terry Barwick.

Striker Gavin Allott who finished last season at Worksop Parramore in the NCEL also signed for the Evo-Stik NPL Premier oufit along with central defender Darren Kelly from Garforth Town.

Former Frickley player Lee Stratford returns for a third time to complete Rose’s business, Stratford joining as a player and coach.

Bloor will be familiar to Blues fans after playing for the club under Billy Heath before leaving for Goole.

Jeffs, a 29 year old defender, has played over 150 games for Goole since joining them from Pontefract Collieries. Defender Johnston, 23, signed last season from NCEL side Bottesford Town.

Experienced midfielder Barwick, 29, has also played for Worksop Town, Scunthorpe United, Grimsby Town and Retford United while Allott, 26, scored over 50 goals in two seasons with Goole before switching to Guiseley at the start of last season. He went on loan to Worksop Town before returning to Goole and then finished the campaign at Worksop Parramore.

Northern Ireland U21 international defender Kelly, 33, was with Garforth Town last term and has previously been with Derry City, Portadown, Carlisle United, York City and Stalybridge Celtic.

New player coach Stratford is now 36 with a wealth of experience having played for the likes of Goole AFC, Bradford Park Avenue, Belper Town, Emley, Stalybridge Celtic and Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Frickley, meanwhile, have announced that’ll be running three football training camps over the school summer holidays.

Aimed at children aged between 5 and 14, the thee day camps will take on three separate weeks at a cost of £30 for three days or £12 per day.

Overseen by Athletic's assistant manager James Dudgeon, the courses take place at Frickly’s Westfield Lane ground between 10am and 3pm on August 1, 2, 3, 15, 16, 17, 29, 30 and 31.

There will also be appearances by many of Frickley Athletic's players and various prizes will be awarded during the courses.
