Buxton advertise manager's role

Premier Division side to replace Scott Maxfield

Premier Division side Buxton have announced that they are opening the manager's position for applications.

The post is currently held by Scott Maxfield, but the player-manager has been unable to drag the team out of a slump that has seen them win just one of the last 16 league games, a run that has left them five points from safety.

The decision comes after a board meeting on Monday night, and the club are open to the possibility of a player-manager.

Chairman Tony Tomlinson told the Evo-Stik NPL website, "Scott Maxfield has been in charge since John Reed’s departure in mid-November when the club was already occupying one of the relegation places. After a further ten league matches we are still in trouble but with one-third of the season’s fixtures remaining, there is still time for us to escape.

"In 1996 David Vaughan took over in late March, made 2 signings and the invigorated team took 17 points from 10 games to escape relegation on the last day.

"‘Maxi’ and Chris Dolby have acted with commitment, energy and skill in tackling a most difficult inheritance of a full compliment of contract professionals with little room to manoeuvre and haven’t had much luck particularly with the loss of the two centre-halves in mid-January."

The club have not set a closing date for applicants, but have said that they expect to make a decision on a shortlist very soon, and that applicants should act swiftly.
