Buxton make gesture to Ukraine

Buxton played in yellow shorts with their blue shirts at the weekend to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

They made the tweak to their normal all blue away strip for the 4-0 win at Bamber Bridge.

Diego De Girolamo scored a brace either side of half-time and there were further goals from Warren Clarke and substitute Jason Gilchrist.

Manager Steve Cunningham said: “There is no room for complacency. The players listened to what I said (at half time) and acted on it.

“Our quality shone through after the break and the 4-0 score is a fair reflection of our eventual superiority.”

The Bucks can go top of the Northern Premier League on Tuesday night, if they beat Witton Albion.

The title race is heating up with less than 10 games to go.

South Shields currently hold pole position on 64 points, despite dropping points away at Stafford on Saturday.

Buxton are second a point behind, while Matlock Town are a further point behind - although the Gladiators do have a game in hand on the two above them.
