Buxton part company with Reed

Club statement.

Buxton FC parted company with manager John Reed following Tuesday evening’s Doodson Sport Cup-tie at Brigg Town.

The parting, by mutual consent, followed the clubs’ worrying start to the season which has seen it slip from last spring’s final position of 6th to the current placing in the relegation zone. ‘The Bucks’ have not won a league fixture since the 2-0 home victory over Mickleover Sports in late September. Assistant manager Clive Freeman, who had been at the club for the whole of John Reed’s 4 ½ year tenure, has also departed.

On Wednesday morning player-coach Scott Maxfield agreed to take charge immediately and for the immediate future. Chairman Tony Tomlinson said, “Maxi is certainly up for the challenge and is confident he can turn things round to improve our league position.”

Tony also paid tribute to the departing manager. “The board of directors wishes to express their gratitude to John for his services and the commitment he has shown to the club. In particular we remember how well he did in his first season here to lead us to the play-off final and who can forget last season’s memorable FA Cup occasions at Telford and Fleetwood? We wish him well for the future.”
