Calligan joins Brighouse Town

The versatile wide man, capable of operating at full-back or on the wing, joined Barnsley’s Academy in January 2014 and signed as a first-year scholar in July 2018.

He went on to appear for their U23s at the end of the 2018/19 Professional Development League campaign.

Calligan's first full season at U23s level, in 2020/21, started in fine fashion as he scored in their 2-1 defeat at champions Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend.

At the end of the season, he left Barnsley following the expiration of his contract at the Tykes before going on to join NWCFL side Stockport Town.

The young defender joined Avenue ahead of their return to the Northern Premier League and has featured seven times so far this season.

He could make his debut on Saturday when Town host Newton Aycliffe in the Pitching In NPL East Division.
