The 53-year-old, pictured, was named as the successor to Adam Stevens at the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club on Wednesday night, less than a month after stepping down at King's Lynn Town at the end of the season.
Like his predecessor who left the Meres after guiding the Gingerbreads to promotion play-off final heartbreak at Ashton United, Culverhouse resigned at The Walks after losing out to Slough Town in the climax to the Southern League's campaign.
In a statement announcing his "appointment with immediate" effect, officials at the Meres said the former Barnet, Dagenham, Norwich City and Aston Villa number two was asked to take charge after outlining his vision and plans to Grantham Town's board and chairman Roger Booth.
The former Spurs, Norwich, Swindon and Brighton defender beat 17 other candidates to the post and Booth said: "I'm delighted Ian has agreed to become our manager and we hope he can build on the momentum the club has. Things are happening in all areas of the club and everyone associated with it has every right to be positive about the club's future."
"I would like to thank all the other applicants for the position. We really did have a high calibre of managers apply for the position which made the task for the board that little more difficult but in Ian I feel we have made the right choice for the clubs future."
