Champions have huge potential

By David Watters

Basford United's new commercial manager Ryan Doherty reckons he is ready to tap into the "huge" potential of the EVO-STIK League South champions next season.

Appointed by Basford chairman Chris Munroe and new vice-chairman Tom Brookbanks to build on the success of the last campaign at Greenwich Avenue under manager Martin Carruthers, Nottingham-raised Doherty knows what he is talking about as a former manager of Kimberley MW and Awsworth Villa who runs his own successful business.

Doherty, pictured, said: "I've got a lot of experience both in football and business and I hope to combine them into this new role at Basford. This is a big club already and the potential to grow it even further is huge. For me to be part of that is a no-brainer."

United transformed their base into a community hub with the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G surface nearly three years ago. Currently preparing for a third season, the new facilities at the Nottinghamshire club's home also boast a number of other full and small-sided grass pitches.
