Chettle in at Basford

Basford United have appointed former Nottingham Forest defender Steve Chettle as manager on a four-year deal.

Chettle, 50, will combine the first team manager job with a role as Head of Football Development from July 1.

He secured a release from his contract as first team coach and head coach of Notts County’s Under 23s at the end of the season to make the move, as Basford work towards a partially full time playing staff as they seek to progress up the football pyramid.

Chairman Chris Munroe said: “I am delighted we have secured the appointment of (Chets). Me and only me alone made the tough decision to change a very successful management pairing in Martin Carruthers and Mark Clifford who left a very good platform.

“At the time of changing managers, I vowed the next appointment would not be advertised, but be carefully selected and I have stuck to this.

“Steve Chettle was always that person and despite taking a while to get this over the line delighted, we have finally got there.

“I believe the club is in really good hands with Steve and supported by some excellent people in Dom, Liam, Milo, Michael. I have no doubt in future years we could look back, that this was the most pivotal set of appointments in the club’s long history.”
