Chorley hope for gate boost

Blackburn fans set to attend NFU clash

Chorley confidently expect an influx of Blackburn Rovers’ supporters to swell the gate for Saturday’s match against North Ferriby United at Victory Park.

A section of Rovers’ diehards, increasingly disenchanted with the direction the Blackburn club is taking under Indian owners Venky’s, have decided not to travel to Newcastle for Rovers’ third round FA Cup tie but to support the local Magpies at a time when financial irregularities within the Chorley club have left it with a cash crisis.

There is a strong Rovers’ connection at Chorley who are managed by former Blackburn captain Garry Flitcroft assisted by popular ex-Rovers’ striker Matt Jansen The Rovers’ fans have hired several coaches to transport supporters to Chorley at a nominal cost of £3 per head and at least 200 are expected to attend the match.

Their remarkable initiative and fine gesture have received widespread media coverage with reports and interviews on BBC Radio 2, Radio 5 Live and on BBC Radio Lancashire plus headline exposure on the BBC Sport website, together with extensive press reporting. Given the Magpies’ current average attendances, a crowd well in excess of 1,000 is anticipated.
