Clitheroe chair to stand down

By James Gordon

Clitheroe chairman Anne Barker and ground manager Bill Barker have announced they will be stepping down as directors and retiring from the club at the end of the season.

Anne became Chairman in 2011 after holding various positions within the club beginning in 2006, and she will be around for advice in a non-director role to help with a smooth transition.

Billy became ground-manager in 2010 taking over from Keith Lord, and has overseen all pitch maintenance and ground projects since then. He too will offer support to everyone who comes forward to take on those duties.

Anne said “It comes with great sadness that an era will come to an end for both Billy and I, after many highs and lows at Clitheroe FC. We’ve made some great friends here and at other clubs, but we’re looking forward to retirement and going back to watching Clitheroe as fans with our family”.

The rest of the Board and volunteers are continuing, and the next three months will be spent ensuring that roles within the club are handed over to others in a structured fashion.

Clarity on the future shape of the Board will emerge in the coming weeks but the Directors will be looking to add to the committee numbers for the future.
