Club To Host Charity Game

Match for Teenage Cancer Unit to be held at Coach and Horses

Monday’s friendly game at the BT Local Business Stadium sees Sheffield FC take on a young Holmesfield team in support of Weston Park’s Teenage Cancer Unit.

The purpose of the game is to raise vital funds for the Teenage Cancer Unit in the name of Edward Gray who tragically lost his 6 month fight against a brain tumour in June. Edward played amateur football for 12 of his 19 years and had been a vital member of the Holmesfield FC team for the past 5 years.

The Teenage Cancer Unit is situated in Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield. This purpose built, specialist unit was opened in 2002 and treats around 60 teenagers and young adults per year from South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire. There are 5 rooms within the TCU and each room has been designed with young adults in mind, each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, a flat screen TV, internet access, a Play station, a DVD player and reclining chairs so relatives & friends can stay at night.

The main aim of the unit is to provide a friendly environment where young cancer patients can receive not only the specialist medical care but also to have that treatment in a unit that is filled with people who are of a similar age. It also helps young people cope with their changing self - image, making future career or study plans, dealing with infertility problems and more generally helps them cope with relationships outside their normal family circle.

All the money raised from the game will go towards continued funding of this fantastic facility in Sheffield so please do come along and support a worthy cause.
