Officials at the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club are getting ready to host Stratford Town in a fundraising fixture at Coles Lane in March after a number of his former clubs including Chasetown, Hednesford, Leamington, Redditch and Solihull announced they were uniting to start raising much-needed funds for Sheldon and his family during his treatment and recovery.
The 26-year-old former Birmingham City midfielder received the devastating news he had cancer in November and fans will be asked to pay as much or as little as they want to see the 2pm kick-off on Sunday 18 March. The Brakes, who Sheldon played for between 2010 and 2014, are also set to play a Sheldz All Stars team, made up of his former team-mates, in a separate fundraiser.
A Royals spokesman said: "As with everything he does, Jamie faced this head on and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Jamie has had a huge impact on Midlands Non-League football and played for a number of clubs.
"In doing this Sheldz has made many friends and is highly respected amongst his fellow players as well as managers and coaches he has played for and the many thousands of supporters he has played in front off.
"We want all of the above to come together and help raise much needed funds to help Jamie and his family during his treatment and recovery. The best way we know is to have a football match between the promotion winning sides of two of Sheldz's former clubs, Sutton Coldfield Town and Stratford Town. We would also like as many of Sheldz's friends and former team-mates to also get involved on the day."
The spokesman added: "As well as the game itself we will be auctioning off a number of prizes yet to be confirmed and again we are open to any kind donations of prizes or time to help us put this day together and raise as much money as possible for one of the nicest lads you could ever wish to meet."
