Cotton joins Ossett

Ossett United have announced the signing of midfielder Glyn Cotton.

Cotton boasts a wealth of experience in both Step 3 and 4 of the football pyramid from his time at Matlock Town, Pontefract Collieries, Coalville, Belper Town, Stocksbridge, Sheffield FC and Frickley Athletic.

The central-midfielder took a break from football to focus on other activities but after having conversations with Ossett United joint-managers Jas Colliver and Mark Ward, he is looking forward to making his return with the Sheepicorns.

"Having taken a break from football I spoke at length with Jas [Colliver] and Wardy [Mark Ward] and they are the only people in football that I’m happy and willing to put the effort in and to put the work in to get back to full fitness." he said.

"I can’t wait to get going again, I came to a couple of games last season and was very impressed, Ify (Ofoegbu) scored late on against Sheffield FC and the crowd went wild, I said to Wardy then that I’d like to get back in to playing.

Cotton added, "I’ve been training with the lads during pre-season to get my fitness levels up, and I now feel I’m ready to show what I can do and add some much needed experience to the team, and I can help improve certain players too.

"This is the right club, with the right management team, a great fan base, a good atmosphere, a good set up and if we get things right we can definitely make the play-offs."

Ossett boss Mark Ward is hoping that Cotton will use his experience to good effect on his youthful squad.

"As a management team we’re always talking on how we can improve the team and looking at the squad this year it’s very close to how we wanted it to be.

"It’s young, energetic and hungry but a little naive and lacks a little experience at times so that’s why we’re bringing Glyn in," he said.

"He has that in abundance along with a level of talent playing for numerous clubs at this level and above and we’re hoping he can help manage the team on and off the pitch organisational wise and in our mind set.

"He’s a born winner who’s cut from the same cloth as Jas and myself so we’re looking forward to working with him."
