Creaney boosts Basford striking options

Basford United have added a second new striker this week with the capture of Daniel Creaney on a month’s loan from Coalville Town.

Creaney, 22, scored 31 goals in all competitions last season before Coalville’s switch to EVO-STIK Southern Central, alongside current Basford striker Nat Watson.

He follows on from the capture of fellow forward Shaun Harrad from Matlock Town.

Manager Martin Carruthers said: " Last week was a set of very unfortunate circumstances that we will accept, but our players know the high standards we set & the message is clear.

“With the continued backing of our Chairman we need a big response from all of you, from one to 11 excluding maybe one or two, last week was totally unacceptable.

“As shown this week we will take the decisions necessary in the interest of the club & its objectives to bring players in or release players.”

Basford, who have lost their last three games, have lost strikers Liam Hearn, Courey Grantham and the aforementioned Watson through injury at various times this season.

Hearn hasn’t played since the start of December but is getting closer to fitness and will be managed tightly in terms of building up minutes.

Basford host high-flying South Shields in the EVO-STIK League Premier Division on Saturday.
