Nominated for their 1-0 win over League One Northampton Town, who were 89 places ahead of them in Football's ladder when Jack Duggan popped up with the winner four minutes from the end of their second round clash, pictured, the Glassboys are looking to scoop up as many votes as possible from the EVO-STIK NPL family before the Football Association's online poll closes next month on Wednesday 10 May.
Despite booking their place in the third round at Wycombe Wanderers as the lowest ranked club left in the world's oldest cup competition with the famous win at the War Memorial Ground in December, the EVO-STIK NPL's cup kings face formidable opposition with Millwall, Sutton United and Lincoln City, the first Non-League club to reach the quarter-finals in more than a hundred years, also in the running as they prepare to host Workington in the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division's play-off semi-finals on Monday night following their third-placed finish to the 2016-17 season on Saturday.
If the Glassboys pull off another upset against all the odds, four members of the club will be invited to the Emirates FA Cup Final between Cheslea and Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday 27 May to be presented with the coveted accolade by Ronnie Radford, creator one of the competition’s most famous-ever shocks with a spectacular goal for Hereford United against Newcastle United in 1972.
The long-range strike on a mud-covered Edgar Street pitch – watched by the TV cameras and greeted with unbridled glee by 26-year-old rookie commentator John Motson – equalised Malcolm Macdonald’s opener for the Magpies, before Ricky George hit the winner.
Previous winners of the Ronnie Radford Award are Crawley Town in 2011, Swindon Town in 2012, Luton Town in 2013, Sheffield United in 2014, Bradford City in 2015 and Chesham United in 2016.
The EVO-STIK NPL's flag-bearers for the accolade entered the competition in first round qualifying and won five ties to set up a trip to Northampton Town in the second round, their recording-breaking run to the third round for the first time in their history ending in a 2-1 defeat at League Two Wycombe Wanderers in January after Dan Scarr thought he'd earned the club a replay when he turned home a second-half free-kick.
