Cup shock delights Rinkcavage

Frickley Athletic update, by Steve Pennock.

Blues manager Peter Rinkcavage was proud of his team’s performance on Tuesday as they deservedly overcame Conference North opposition to progress in the FA Cup with Budweiser.

He said, “I was absolutely delighted for the players last night. To come from behind against a team from the division above twice in 4 days shows the resilience we now have. I don’t think there is anyone who watched the two games who would begrudge us going through. We were the better team on Saturday and should have won and we were the better team last night.”

Frickley found themselves a goal down after 54 minutes but stormed back to clinch the winner in injury time. Rinkcavage commented, “With 20 minutes to go and 1-0 down I said to Jason (assistant manager) that whatever happens now the players have been magnificent again. For us to then come back and win the game says so much about the players’ ability and character. When it came to which team wanted it most we won hands down.”

Frickley were again without several key players but you wouldn’t have known it as they took the game to Harrogate throughout the match. Rinkcavage said, “We have some superb youngsters in the team and they are playing with a freshness and enthusiasm that is great to see. We passed the ball well in both games, worked hard and I can’t praise them enough.” Rinkcavage concluded, “It was a great night for the club and I am pleased for everyone. We took loads of support with us and they gave us fantastic backing and the celebrations at the end were something to remember.”

Frickley have now gone 6 games unbeaten but face a tough test at Hednesford on Saturday and Rinkcavage said his players must now focus on that game. He commented, “The games are coming thick and fast and the opposition seems to be getting harder each match. We have Hednesford, FC United and then Gainsborough in the next 12 days so we certainly don’t have time to rest on our laurels. We will enjoy this result for a couple of days and then get back to preparing for the next game.”
