De Girolamo avows Buxton return to form ahead of South Shields clash

Buxton Football Club striker Diego De Girolamo has suggested that his side have returned to form after a tough run of recent results.

The Bucks returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 away win at Hyde United.

Warren Clarke and Jason Gilchrist wrote their names onto the scoresheet to give the Bucks a well earned three points at the Ewen Fields.

It was the sides’ first win since the 11th of December ending a bad run of form which seen them claim three points from only one game in their last six.

Buxton will host South Shields next in what will be a true top of the table clash between two heavyweights of the Northern Premiership this season.

South Shields currently sit in 2nd place, four points ahead of Buxton with two games in hand.

The Bucks will be hoping to reduce the gap between them and South Shields if they are to have any chance of keeping their trophy hopes alive and leapfrog the Mariners in the table.

Speaking ahead of the game, Bucks attacker Diego De Girolamo reflected on where he believes the team are at currently.

"The win on Saturday against Hyde was massive for the lads", he claimed.

"Obviously, the confidence in the team did dip a little bit with the run of games we’ve had, the losses, but it definitely seems to be back to normal now.

"I know the lads are really looking forward to the game on Saturday and hopefully it’s one we can take three points from."

Buxton claimed victory in the reverse fixture earlier on this season with a 1-0 away at Mariners Park back in October and will be hoping to replicate a similar result.

Speaking on the importance of the fans, De Girolamo suggested: "It’s massive.

"We’ve seen what the fans have done for us in previous games like the Kettering game.

“They’re our twelfth man really and its obviously what we want as players and what we need and hopefully it will be a big crowd on Saturday hopefully cheering us on.”

Buxton will host South Shields at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium on Saturday at 3.00pm.
