Defensive frailty concerns Evans

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell.

ROMULUS boss Richard Evans described his side’s defensive frailties as a ‘massive concern’ after taking just one point from two home matches, leaving them without a clean sheet in fifteen competitive games this season.

A 3-1 reverse against Lincoln United was followed by a 3-3 draw with bottom side Quorn, but Evans insisted his charges aren’t too far away from finding a winning formula.

“It’s not rocket science- everyone in the ground knows what we need.

“We’ve scored eleven goals in four games, but we need a centre half, once we have the right personnel we’ll be a threat again.”

Romulus take a break from their league programme with a cup double header this week, making the short trip to Halesowen Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday, before hosting Stafford Town in the Walsall Senior Cup on Monday night (Coles Lane, KO 7.45pm).

Reviewing the league action, Evans said: “Lincoln was a bad day at the office, yet again there were individual mistakes that we simply have to cut out.

“The reaction against Quorn was pleasing, but with ten men it was a big ask, and there were still individual errors.

“We were much the better side on Monday and I was really pleased with the young lads, Todd Evans and Cameron Lee.

“They’ve both come into a difficult situation and really shone, which is just the kind of thing we work on at Romulus, so that was a big positive.”

Ashley Jackson should be available after missing the last two games with a knee injury, while Marcus Brown and Jon Powis should feature despite picking up minor knocks on Monday night.

*ROMULUS will reduce their admission prices on Monday night for the Walsall Senior Cup tie with West Midlands League side Stafford Town.

Adults are admitted for just £5, with concessions priced at £3 and ‘Kids for a quid’.
