Despair after third raid in weeks

Spalding United chairman Andrew Gay came close to throwing the towel in this week after mindless thieves and vandals broke into the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club's home for the third time in two weeks.

The Tulips chairman aired his despair and frustration on Twitter after yobs caused thousands of pounds in damage by breaking into their Sir Halley Stewart Field home on Monday night and ransacking the social club and other public areas, pictured.

The raid followed previous break-ins by thieves and vandals on Saturday 8 October and Tuesday 18 October. Stolen goods have included food, alcohol and even the content's of the EVO-STIK NPL First Division South club's charity box.

A Tulips spokesman said: “Club chairman Andrew Gay was close to despair after yet another bout of moronic, malicious, criminal behaviour.

“Having worked tirelessly the past few years to elevate the exterior and interior of a once dowdy facility, many SUFC volunteers must feel close to throwing in the towel when all their hard work is apparently undone in one fell swoop by worthless individuals intent on wreaking havoc on anything good they might happen across.”

Police are investigating the break-ins which have caused substantial damage, both externally and internally, and are appealing for witnesses.
