Diskin delight at new signing

Newcastle Town update, by Ray Tatton.

Manager John Diskin is delighted that new signing Will Ryder came knocking on his door.

Players don’t often drop into your lap but the experienced midfielder, who had moved into the area, asked whether the Club were interested in him.

The Management decided to take a look and he came off the bench in midweek and played for 20 minutes in Tuesday’s derby game against Leek Town. Manager John Diskin said “ He’s made a decent start. You could tell he is a talker and he used the ball well.”

Another new signing who has had an eventful time since joining the club is centre back Adam Bayley. He has won two Man Of The Match Awards in three home games and been carried off on a stretcher at Sutton Coldfield. The good news for Castle is that the player is staying with the club. Adam has turned down the opportunity to return to Witton in the short term.

Diskin said “ When we signed Adam we had a gentleman’s agreement that he could go back to Witton if he wanted to, but he knows he will get regular football with us and we are more than happy that he is staying.”

Despite Town’s improved form Castle are still on the look out for a couple of new players and have been sounding out several possibilities in the last week.

Newcastle are looking forward to their next two home fixtures against Nantwich Town in the Doodson Sport Cup on Tuesday 6th and Hednesford Town in the Staffs Senior Cup a week later. Two more good gets should make early Christmas presents for the club but for the players it is a chance to match themselves against higher opposition. Having already pushed Stafford to the brink in the FA Trophy they will fancy their chances of going one better.

Returning to the Lyme Valley will be three of Town’s former strikers Ben Mills and prolific scorer Mickey Lennon with Nantwich and Nick Wellecomme with Hednesford. Wellecomme held Town’s record for scoring the most goals in a match (5 v Nelson) but that was equalled this season by Town’s present jewel in the crown Anthony Malbon who equalled the total in the FA Cup match v Stratford Town earlier in the season.
