Dockerill delight at Roms fair play

Romulus update, by Andy Mitchell

ROMULUS Vice Chairman Paul Dockerill said the club's committee were "delighted" with the news that they have topped the Evo-Stik League's Fair Play table at the halfway stage of the season.

The Roms are joint top of the divisional standings, receiving just two cards for such offences this season, alongside Brigg Town and promotion chasers Carlton Town.

Dockerill said: "We have been very supportive of this initiative, which is an excellent addition to the Respect campaign.

"Of course we're delighted to be leading the way, and the money would come in very useful, but the pride of being top definitely surpasses that.

"Footballers at every club have had to change the way they are towards referees in recent years, and rightly so. For us to be leading the way shows we're getting a lot right at this club.

"It is a mentality that is fed down throughout the different youth sides and as a club we're very proud of that."

The Roms take that impressive record, as well as a four match unbeaten run, to Shepshed Dynamo on Boxing Day (KO 3pm).

Gavin Day and Ben Richards-Everton will be suspended for the clash against the Leicestershire strugglers after last weekend's match at Leek Town was postponed.

Dynamo haven't won in six matches and fill the second relegation place in the Evostik NPL One South - they are seven points behind Romulus.

Meanwhile, as reported last week, Marvin Johnson has spent this week on trial at Championship club Burnley. The 20-year-old striker started on Monday and his trial ends on Friday. Crewe Alexandra also wish to run the rule over the player as soon as possible, with another week's trial likely after the festive period
