The EVO-STIK League Premier Division club - hosting Workington Athletic at Borough Park in the quarter-finals of the cup they lifted last season - announced the departure of the popular midfielder earlier this week.
After originally signing for the Cumbrians for a brief spell in 2008, Earl returned to Borough Park in 2015 and for the past two and a half seasons had been a key member of the squad before joint managers Lee Andrews and David Hewson agreed to release him.
Earl - who made 79 starts and was named as substitute on 30 occasions - scored seven times for the club and last played for Reds boss Lee Andrews in the EVO-STIK League Premier Division club in Buildbase FA Trophy tie at Weston-super-Mare last month.
A Reds spokesman said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank James for his service with the club and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his playing career."
