East Preview: Morpeth visit lowly Carlton as they close in on title

By James Gordon

Runaway EVO-STIK League East Division leaders Morpeth have the chance to cement their spot at the top as they travel to to take on second-bottom Carlton Town.

The Millers are currently two points from safety, and with three consecutive defeats on the bounce, picking up any sort of result against the table-toppers looks unlikely.

If Morpeth do succumb to a shock defeat, Pontefract Collieries can reduce the gap at the helm to seven points if they can pick up a fourth straight away victory at play-off chasing Tadcaster Albion, who themselves have won five games in a row.

Below them, Sheffield will look to extend their superb record of eight consecutive home wins when mid-table Frickley Athletic come to town, whereas Brighouse will look to end their two-game winless run at St Giles Road when Cleethorpes head west.

Elsewhere in the round, Belper Town will aim to keep their play-off hopes alive as they welcome a Pickering Town outfit with just one win in 10 on the road, while Ossett will be out to extend their five-game winning streak on the road when they visit relegation-threatened Spalding United.

Gresley will look to extend Lincoln’s turgid run of four consecutive losses when they face off at Ashby Avenue, while Loughborough Dynamo will have to do it the hard way if they are to overcome Stocksbridge Park Steels, who have won back-to-back matches.

In the final games of the round, Wisbech can give their survival chances a huge boost if they are to conquer and leapfrog 16th-placed AFC Mansfield, while Marske United visit fellow mid-table side Stamford, who will be hoping to end their run of three consecutive score draws.
