East Preview: Promotion hopefuls clash plus Yorkshire derby

By James Gordon

In-form Tadcaster Albion welcome Brighouse Town in a meeting between two of the sides currently occupying the play-off places in the EVO-STIK League East Division.

Taddy are the form team in the division and sit level on points and goal difference with Brighouse, as both seek to bridge the gap between them and leaders Morpeth, who host AFC Mansfield.

Second placed Lincoln United face another in-form team in the shape of Sheffield, who sit just a point off the play-off places with a game in hand - while Lincoln have played two more games than the rest of the top five, and three more than Saturday’s opponents.

There’s a local derby at Frickley Athletic as they welcome Pontefract Collieries for what is a first ever competitive fixture between the two.

Luke Jeffs, Jake Picton, Glyn Cotton and Mark Whitehhouse are among the players at Colls who will return to face their former club, with the visitors on a run of three consecutive wins, scoring 10 goals in the process, which sees them fifth in the table.

Frickley have been tumbling down the league after four straight defeats, during which they have conceded 11 goals, including last week’s 4-3 defeat to Ossett United.

Cleethorpes Town hit Stocksbridge Park Steels for six last weekend, their second successive win, as they continue to climb up the table under Dave Smith.

This week they travel to Loughborough Dynamo, who beat league leaders Morpeth Town a fortnight ago.

Two strugglers meet at the Look Local Stadium as Stocksbridge Park Steels host Spalding United. No team has lost more games than Steels, and with just three points separating 13th place and bottom, a win could be very rewarding - while a defeat could send them bottom of the league.

Steels have strengthened their injury hit squad with the signing of goalkeeper Ed Hall from Farsley Celtic, and right sided player Jordan Lemon from Matlock Town, himself a former Spalding player.

After suffering penalty heartbreak in midweek in their FA Trophy replay against Barwell, Stamford will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league, where they have won just twice in their last 10.

Opponents Pickering are on a not too dissimilar run, winning three of their last 10, and just two points and one place separate them in the table.

Elsewhere, bottom side Wisbech Town host Ossett United, Belper Town travel to Carlton Town and Marske United welcome Gresley.
