East Round-up: 33 is the magic number and Hazel strikes again

By James Gordon

Lincoln United’s draw at Belper Town means all four of the sides in the play-off places in the EVO-STIK League East Division are now on 33 points.

They twice came from behind to earn a point, with Thomas Garrick and Matthew Wilson cancelling out goals from Ross Ruddan and Craig Nelthorpe, but their winless run stretches to four.

None of the top four were in action due to postponements, including the anticipated clash between Brighouse Town and Morpeth Town, while Tadcaster Albion’s game against Sheffield was abandoned due to floodlight failure with Taddy winning 1-0.

Cleethorpes Town’s recent resurgence was halted by a late equaliser that cost them two places in the table.

Brody Robertson’s 28th minute goal looked to have earned them a fourth win in five, but Ross Hardaker stole a point at the death, and the visitors could have won it but for the woodwork, which they hit twice in injury time.

Tenth placed Loughborough Dynamo were the highest placed team to win on Saturday afternoon, Karl Demidh’s penalty on the hour mark after Josh Riley had been brought down enough to beat Stamford 1-0.

Jacob Hazel’s seventh goal in eight days helped Frickley Athletic to a second successive win as they won 1-0 away at Marske United, bringing an end to the hosts’ 13 month unbeaten home record.

Carlton Town earned a welcome victory at Wisbech Town, Oliver Clark and Ben Hutchinson scoring their goals either side of Danny Setchell’s equaliser.

In the other game of the day, bottom side AFC Mansfield lost 2-1 at home to Spalding United, who continue to solidify their mid-table place.

James Hugo gave them a ninth minute lead, and Kieran Wells doubled the advantage before the half hour.

Joe Iaciofano’s goal shortly before the hour mark wasn’t enough to stop the hosts falling to their tenth league defeat of the season, and they’re still two points adrift of Stocksbridge Park Steels at the foot of the table.
