East Round-up: Morpeth march on

By James Gordon

There looks to be no stopping the north-east newcomers at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One East.

Morpeth Town made it 10 wins from 14 games to lead the table by eight points from Marske United, who won comprehensively 4-0 at Loughborough Dynamo.

Morpeth were 2-0 winners at Westfield Lane against Frickley Athletic, courtesy of a Jack Foalle brace in the 10th and 58th minutes.

Marske led 2-0 at half-time at the Nanpantan Sports Ground with goals from Craig Gott from the penalty spot and Adam Wheatley.

Josh Rowbotham added a third on the hour-mark and Matty Waters made it 4-0 on 65 minutes.

Brighouse Town are level on points with Marske after a 2-0 home win over Belper Town with goals from Aaron Martin after 10 minutes and Gabe Johnson just shy of the hour-mark.

They moved above Lincoln United, who were held to a 2-2 draw at Ashby Avenue by mid-table Stamford AFC.

But the Daniels will be the disappointed side as they led 2-0 with goals from Joe Burgess after 13 minutes and Jon Challinor 8 minutes later.

Matt Cotton pulled one back 10 minutes before half-time, and then had Josh Nichol sent-off, but the ten-man equalised in the 90th minute.

Pontefract Collieries complete the top five, knocking Yorkshire rivals Tadcaster Albion out of it after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the i2i Stadium by AFC Mansfield, by beating bottom side Cleethorpes Town 3-0 at home.

Colls got off to a great start with a goal inside 3 minutes from Michael Dunn and then Eli Hey doubled that 12 minutes later, with Jake Picton making sure with a third 7 minutes into the second half.

Taddy looked to be heading for defeat as they trailed Charlie Dawes' early 4th minute penalty, but Joe Lumsden rescued a point in the 90th minute.

Sheffield FC's decent run and their 3-0 win at home to Ossett United sees them level on points with Tadcaster.

Mitch Dunne and James Gregory scored first half goals for Club, with Gregory adding his second to kill off Ossett in the 68th minute.

Ben Rhodes broke second-bottom Wisbech Town hearts with a last-gasp winner for Stocksbridge Park Steels at Bracken Moor, while Leon Mettam's 80th minute effort sealed Spalding United's win at The Moat against Gresley FC.

There was another late winner at Carlton Town, whose Joe Brothwell had cancelled out Billy Logan's 51st minute opener for visiting Pickering Town, only for Joe Danby to win it for the Pikes in stoppage time.
