East Round-up: Top sides march on

By James Gordon

Seven of the top eight all won at the weekend in the EVO-STIK League East Division.

Morpeth Town maintained their seven point lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 win at Ossett United, which sends the Yorkshire side out of the play-off places.

Christopher Reid scored the only goal 13 minutes from time, meaning Brighouse Town’s 1-0 win over Frickley Athletic just maintained the status quo at the top.

Sheffield stay third after thumping Loughborough Dynamo 4-0, Marc Newsham’s brace and goals from James Gregory and Luke Rawson.

Fourth are Pontefract Collieries, who had to come from behind to win 2-1 at Wisbech Town, who led early in the second half through Danny Setchell.

Vaughan Redford’s penalty levelled things up, and then two minutes later Gavin Rothery scored the decisive goal.

Tadcaster Albion moved back in to the play-off places thanks to a 2-1 win over Marske United. Joe Lumsden’s brace either side of Callum Martin’s goal enabled Taddy to be the beneficiaries of Ossett’s home defeat to Morpeth.

Belper Town stay within touching distance of the top five thanks to their third successive win.

They beat AFC Mansfield 2-0 with goals from Danny South and Derry Robson.

Cleethorpes Town kept up with their relentless form as they push for a play-off place, beating Pickering Town 2-1.

Paul Walker and Brody Robertson sealed the points for them, before Ryan Blott’s late penalty.

A late flurry in the game between Spalding United and Stamford resulted in a 2-2 draw.

Stamford had led through Robert Morgan since the eighth minute, with Bradley Wells equalising with the first of his two goals on 81 minutes.

Jake Duffy then thought he had stole the points for the visitors four minutes from the end, for a win that would have boosted Stamford’s play-off hopes, only for Wells to equalise for the second time in injury time.
