FA Trophy games re-arranged

By James Gordon

There will be 12 midweek ties involving NPL clubs in the FA Trophy after Saturday’s weather-hit programme.

Just seven games involving NPL sides went ahead at the weekend, with heavy rain forcing games to be postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

All seven of those games were decided on the day, with Basford United seeing off Mickleover Sports 3-0.

In another all-Premier Division clash, Liam Hardy struck the winner in the seventh minute of injury time as Buxton beat Hyde United 3-2, while Robert Wilson’s first half penalty was enough for Lancaster City to see off Witton Albion 1-0.

There were eight goals at Grantham, as the Gingerbreads twice came from behind to beat Rushall Olympic 5-3, despite Levi Rowley’s hat-trick, while Morpeth Town hit six as they beat Cleethorpes Town 6-1.

Warrington Town were the only home side to lose, knocked out by Ashton United 1-0, while Sutton Coldfield Town caused an upset as they knocked out Stafford Rangers 2-1.

The draw for the second qualifying round takes place this afternoon.
