Wigan move for Leek defender

Leek Town defender Jack Sanders has joined Football League side Wigan Athletic on a professional contract.

Sanders, 20, impressed the Latics academy staff last season playing for the Blues, having signed from Charnock Richard.

He expressed his intentions to move following last season as the new league structure meant it was very difficult to play for Leek in the South East Division whilst he lived in Bolton.

Although under contract the Club had a gentlemen's agreement in place to work with the player on a move if Leek were moved into a different league.

The fee and deal is undisclosed but is structured around incentives, appearances and includes a sell on clause.

Manager Neil Baker said: "Jack is a great lad - young, athletic and will improve further in a professional Club, we wish him all the best for the future - we will keep tabs on his progress.”

Sanders is the second player to have returned to professional football while playing under Baker at Leek.
