Grantham boss hails resilience

Grantham Town ensured their name is in the hat for the FA Trophy second qualifying round draw after a humdinger of a cup tie against Rushall Olympic.

The Gingerbreads eventually prevailed 5-3, having trailed 2-0 and 3-2, with Craig Westcarr scoring a decisive brace in the final quarter.

Manager Paul Rawden told the club’s official website: “It was a fantastic, entertaining 90 minutes. Eight goals, red cards, seven yellows, lots of incidents.

“Credit goes to both sets of players for a fantastic game.

“The biggest thing for me is that if that was four or five weeks ago, the lads might have gone under.

“But they showed resilience and character, perhaps built from the Hyde game where we came back late, and then from the point at South Shields, all this gives players confidence.”
