Boro saw off fourth-bottom Colne 2-0 at the Flamingo Land Stadium in front of a good crowd of 895. It was goalless at the break but just three minutes after the restart, Nathan Curtis` near post header broke the deadlock.
Colne put up a brace show though and it wasn`t until a minute into stoppage time that Boro were able to relax when Jimmy Beadle bundled the ball in from close range.
Hyde United are a point and a place behind Scarborough after a more comfortable 4-1 win at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against bottom-markers Goole AFC.
The Tigers led at the break, thanks to goals from Harry Coates after 11 minutes and Luke Porritt after 33 minutes. Phattharaphol Khamsuk added a third four minutes into the second half, with Devonte Morton pulling one back for the Vikings five minutes later. But a James Burke goal seven minutes from time restored Hyde`s three-goal margin.
The teams occupying seventeenth and eighteenth at the start of play – Radcliffe Borough and Skelmersdale United – shared a 3-3 draw at Stormy Corner.
James Hooper gave visiting Boro a 13th minute lead that Jack Fleming eventually cancelled out two minutes after half-time. That was that until 15 minutes from time when Kurt Sherlock restored Boro`s lead.
However, Andy Owens` penalty five minutes later and then Callum Mahoney on 86 minutes took Skem into the lead for the first time, only for Carl Peers to rescue a point for the visitors a minute from the end.
