Turf-tastic duo already hard at work!

The award-winning groundsmen at EVO-STIK League Loughborough Dynamo are already hard at work preparing to defend their GreenFields Pitch of the Year title.

Pictured with their cheque for £500 from the Northern Premier League's official pitch partners as the inaugural winners of the accolade in EVO-STIK League South, Jamie Cunningham and Joe Griffin are determined to be in the running again and pitch perfect when the new 2018-19 campaign kicks off.

Griffin has been involved with Dynamo for many years while Cunningham is approaching his first anniversary tending to the turf at the EVO-STIK League East club's ADT Stadium.

Griffin said: “We’ve been working on the pitch three days a week since the last match was held on the pitch. We cut it, aerate and spread fertiliser and it is starting to look good as we count down towards the new season.

“The weather this recent season was hard on the pitch particularly with all the rain, but we had only one match postponed due to the weather. This was our Easter Monday game, but the rain was so heavy that it even flooded the approach road to the ground."

His pitch partner Cunningham added: “We cut the pitch twice a week all through the season. We are quite proud of our pitch here at Dynamo, and aside from specifics such as mowing and fertilising, we also address the general maintenance of our pitch during a long season. Both Joe and I really appreciate this award."

Whitby Town and Trafford collected the pitch awards in the top flight and EVO-STIK League North respectively at the NPL's end of season awards night in Blackpool and Loughborough Dynamo chairman Darren Rodgers hailed the club's duo as well as GreenFields for launching the new annual accolades.

Rodgers said: “We are really proud of our pitch and that the sterling work done by Jamie and Joe has been recognised. It is well earned and the support offered by Northern Premier League's official pitch partners GreenFields is invaluable and very much appreciated.”

GreenFields agreed a new three year deal with the EVO-STIK League two weeks ago before honouring their inaugural winners at Blackpool's Hilton Hotel.

Appointed last summer as official pitch partners for the historic 2017-18 50th anniversary campaign to offer advice on maintaining grass pitches and surface solutions to meet the growing demand for 3G and hybrid turf pitches, the sports turf specialists are now looking forward to working with clubs until at least the end of the 2020-21 season.
