Basford continue FA Youth Cup journey

Basford United's academy side host West Bromwich Albion in the third round of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday night.

The game at Greenwich Avenue will be without fans following last week’s announcement of a third UK lockdown, forcing all sport behind closed doors.

United are the lowest-ranked team left after AFC Sudbury’s elimination and will welcome Premier League Albion after beating Grimsby Town in the previous round, with the tie given the go ahead as the Youth Cup is classified as an elite competition.

Despite the restrictions, however, senior officials have confirmed they will be offering a live stream of the match via Greater Manchester-based company Film My Match, which can be purchased and viewed through United’s club shop in hope it attracts support and interest from the football community.

A minimum voluntary donation of £5 can also be made and all proceeds will go towards club finances effected by the ongoing pandemic and an online 50:50 draw will also be drawn with winners announced on the night.

“It is an extremely worrying time for all sections of the football club, but we are delighted to offer these incentives,” said Chair and owner Chris Munroe.

“At present, we are very grateful for the help we have received via the furlough and rates relief schemes, but we also ask that fans and followers take up the option of the livestream for our tie against West Brom to provide valuable support throughout what are very concerning times.

“Every pound spent is critical to the football club and anyone willing to pledge their support financially can do so via our virtual shop and an option to view the game will be provided on the night,” he added.

“Online tickets for the 50:50 draw can also be purchased online, and we will announce the three winners – to share 50% of the winnings – during the game.

“With the club currently receiving zero income, and all sections within set to restart when safe to do so, we ask you to help us navigate through these devasting conditions and help keep the club – a valuable local commodity - afloat.”

In addition to the live stream, Basford will also be offering on-the-night audio commentary through their broadcast channel, Mixlr, and full information can be found on the club’s website and all social media outlets.
