Chris Doyle says players will put “heart and soul” into FA Cup clash

FC United of Manchester defender Chris Doyle says that his side will put everything into this weekend’s FA Cup first round clash against Doncaster Rovers.

Neil Reynolds’ side will feature in the First Round Proper for the third time since the club’s formation in 2005.

The side defeated National League North side Guiseley 2-1 in the Fourth Qualifying Round, thanks to goals from Paul Ennis and Finlay Sinclair-Smith’s 90th minute winner.

Now, the side prepare for their first round clash against Football League One outfit Doncaster Rovers, who have recorded five wins in 10 league games so far this season.

“I can speak on behalf of all the players that every one of us will put our heart and soul into this game,” said Doyle, who joined the club in August 2019 from Marine.

“Doncaster are a brilliant team with quality players, but we are not here to make up the numbers. We aim to win and we will do everything in our power to upset them.

“There’s a buzz around the club. This is a massive occasion for not just the players, but all the staff and everyone involved in the club. Training has been like any other game and we're focused on getting the job done."

The cup fixture will be played behind closed doors at Broadhurst Park, but will feature on BBC Two on Saturday, with coverage starting from 5:15pm.

Doyle added: “Fans make football, it’s as simple as that. Don’t get me wrong, this is a memorable occasion playing live on BBC and one to tell the grandkids about. It is just a shame we cannot hear the atmosphere at Broadhurst Park, but we know they will be watching.

“Like I said before, our aim is to win this game and to make it to the second round would be a brilliant achievement. I hope we can do it for the fans.”
