Declan Bacon buzzing to be back at Gainsborough

Declan Bacon says he’s buzzing to return to Gainsborough Trinity for the remainder of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.

The 26-year-old was originally signed by Curtis Woodhouse at the club, having previously featured for Alfreton and Bottesford.

He went on to score on his Gainsborough debut in a 3-2 home defeat to Scarborough, and says he is looking forward to his return to the Northolme.

“I’m buzzing to be back at Gainsborough, and I feel like this is a fresh start at the club,” said Bacon.

“The club are pulling in the right direction and have an exciting manager and group of very good young players. The main pull for me was a personal challenge of coming back and proving a few people wrong.”

Bacon joined Premier Division opponents Mickleover on a permanent basis just before lockdown, but returns to the Holy Blues under head coach Tom Shaw.

“In all honesty, I loved it at Mickleover. The group of players they have there is amazing. I learned a lot from them as well as the management team. The season that was cut short was special, we were onto good things.

“Tom (Shaw) is a great coach and his detail to the game is impressive. The few training sessions I’ve had since signing have been ridiculous tempo and I love that.

“It’s always nice to play in front of great fans and Gainsborough certainly have that, in the past it was bitter sweet for me, the games I did play in my first stint were brilliant.”

Gainsborough Trinity travel to South Shields this weekend in the Premier Division.
